A visit to Julia Vandepolder’s studio is a visual treat. I hope you enjoy this behind the scenes look at a very talented, emerging artist.
Painting is a way to engage directly with my own experience of the landscape. I create a push and pull between a representational and an abstracted image. Capitalizing on the tension between subject and medium, I explore ways in which something familiar can be perceived through layering or removal of paint.
- Julia Vandepolder
Julia currently shares a studio with Steve Volpe and Alexandra Richardson in the Alton Mill in Alton, Ontario. (A few of Alex’s pieces are also visible in the images.) I first met Julia in her studio with her headphones on –lost in the painting process. I have been following and encouraging her development over the past year and have been amazed at how much she has grown. She continues to fascinate me with each new piece. Definitely one to watch!
